2009 Nationals: Rhythmic Senior

Congratulations to Olympian and reigning rhythmic national all-around champion Naazmi Johnston, who has successfully defended her Australian championship crown in 2009.

In front of a home state crowd, Naazmi convincingly defeated second place-getter Chloe Hayes of WA by nearly 18 points, with an impressive 92.550. Danielle Prince gave the Brisbane crowd something additional to cheer about, taking the all-around bronze behind her well-travelled fellow Queenslander.

In WAG news, Chloe Sims' QLD National 10 team trumped the ACT and Victoria for top honours.

(Unfortunately you can't see her in this photo. Apparently she hit a good bars routine after having a disasterous warmup, and fell once off beam)

Congrats to Chloe. She had a fantastic day and was great to watch, especially the bars routine which scored a 16.075... one of two level 10s to break the 16.000 mark, with WA's Nicole Smith doing it on floor (with a 16.150). I congratulated Nicole afterwards and she was so sweet - very surprised that someone was watching her other than her family!

I would have loved to see Nicole's Floor. It must take a lot to stay focussed being the only Level 10 in the state. I bet she is an inspiration to the other girls in her squad at lower levels. I think she has been competing on her own in WA for a while now. Must try to get down there for the Level 10 Finals.

I can't believe they didn't even bother with a podium - that is really lame for nationals, esp for elites later this week.

victoria so had the best leotard!!

What do you mean by a podium? What do they normally have. This is what is used for WA Comps, and while I agree they could use a new one I'm not sure what you mean.

Re 1:01
She means that the apparatus is raised off the floor like on a stage. They have the podium setup at the Olympics and at other big events. They had the podium setup at last years nationals.

By podium they mean the elevated podiums/platforms for the apparatus - here the apparatus are just on the floor. At elite nationals they usually have the comp on podium as they use them in worlds and other big comps. I guess they didn't want to spend the money on transporting one from interstate, but it is admittedly a bit slack for elite nationals.

Given the photo that is dosplayed, I thought she meant the awards podium where the gymnasts step up to receive their medals.

So Did I which is why I asked the question

I think the QLD leos are not too bad though! Congrats to Chloe & the rest of the level 10 QLDers! Hope we can keep this effort up in other levels for this comp and also for Wednesday night! (You footy fans know what I mean!!)

yeah thw fact that they didnt have raised apparatus is really slack, thats crap!

There hasnt been raised apparatus for the last 3 years for the nationals levels Australian Championships

I think it is slack that they don't have the podium for the national girls as they train just as hard as the elite girls and this is their nationals as well. I think we focus to much on the elite girls.
