Sign Flu

Sick, housebound, losing my voice.

Here are some things I'd say if I could speak properly right now.

Back in Perth for several weeks before a return to OSU. Look at that attention to detail, even using fluro orange paint.

That's, "And anyone else with hurty bits" if you can't quite make it out. Stupid camera.

I'd add more o's if I could...

For realsies.

Looks like Emma's following in the footsteps of Georgia in getting herself an awesome E release skill. I really wish Emma hadn't been so injured this past year because she was really starting to come into her own. She really suprised me at last year's nationals busting out the DTY and having a decent beam. Hopefully she's really worked on bars and floor and is ready to go at nats.

She's not going to nationals sadly...

I second that, Emma and Georgia are NOT competing at nationals. I know only Shona from Waverley is,(I am gymnast). I think Waverley's program will drop out soon as per cycle and give way to the MLC gymnasts. They are so lovely and Michelle is a very good coach.

Wow Emma didn't make it to Nats? That sucks, I was looking forward to seeing her there! That means she has no chance at Worlds hey? :(

IIRC she is not going because she is coming back from injury and wasn't going to make the $2000 trip to do 1 vault, since she is only ready for that event. She can still make worlds, she has injury reasons for not being ready. Same with Georgia who competed beam at Vics.

I have it on good authority that, while she is not be going to Nationals and only did one vault type at Vics, Emma is working on a second vault. This authority also informs me that Georgia still has Worlds in her sights, even if she's not at Nationals either.

Damn injuries...

With a second vault Emma would have a great chance at worlds. The AA spots would be much more difficult to get because Georgia/Shona/Lauren are probably front runners for those, but a team of
Georgia -AA
Shona -AA
Lauren-BB/FX
Emma VT/UB

would be awesome. I don't know where Amber fits in, she was only vaulting a yurchenko pike last year making her too weak for an AA spot, and she's more the type of athlete for a team worlds since she's not outstanding on any event but reasonably good on all.

Boring. All boring.

I don't see Waverly giving way to MLC anytime soon. Their Juniors struggled to qualify and their 10's are no better than anyone else's for their ages (even if they are little, they are still in year 9 like the waverley juniors).
MLC have no seniors either.

Yeah I think it is a bit premature to write Waverley off. They could have up to three on the world championship team if things go well for them.

At the next olympics there is only going to be five per team with all five doing AA in prelims, is it the same at 2010 and 2011 world champs?

It's really not about MLC vs Waverley vs VWHPC etc. All have excellent programmes. What we really need is more programmes offering more gymnasts to deepen the pool. Good on Jets and Grips for committing to an elite programme too. It's hard for clubs to do elite, harder still to be the coaches, parents and athletes. We should look at all of these gymansts as Victorians/Australians rather than focusing on parochial attachment to a given club.

Let's keep our eyes on the bigger picture and give all of these programmes our full support.

mlc have chloe turko. she's just injured

georgia wheeler qualified with ease. what you are saying about MLC's juniors is not true. alex just had to catch her jaeger and she did that. so does it really matter?

Spread all the elite potentials across various clubs in Melbourne and what do you get? Watered down gymnastics. Melbourne is not big enough to sustain so many elite clubs.

I have continued this discussion on the Aussie Board.

I finally managed to put some of my pics from Vics on Flickr. You'll have to excuse the odd colour casts and occasional blurriness - I am really inexperienced with photography.

Yeh gosh who cares what club they come from.

Just wanted to add that the link above cuts off if you view the comments on the white page, but if you go to the blog homepage and click the title of the entry you can see it in full.

Thanks, Wolfie. I was about to do the same.

Feel free to start up a "Speculate about the fate of QAS programs" discussion anytime soon. That'll get some debate happening. I should know!

As we speak, I am starting up a Who Will Be on the Worlds Team thread.

PS: Nade, don't worry. I'm sure they will be fine. Another photographer remarked to me that it was too dark in the venue to take exceptional photos.
