Pacific Rim News: Team Australia (WAG)

I'm sure it was a VERY Good Friday for a handful of Aussie gymnasts.

Congratulations to...

Senior-
Georgia Wheeler
Emily Little
Larrissa Miller

Junior-
Amelia McGrath
Georgia-Rose Brown
Emma Collister

Britt Greeley is reportedly the senior reserve, Emma Nedov for juniors.

You can see some photos from the camp, courtesy of the VWHPC, here.

Hoping all athletes and officials had a safe trip home from Canberra, and can enjoy an awesome Easter weekend!

Emma Nedov is the Junior reserve.

Love the fact that 4 of the 6 are from club programs. 5 if you count Georgia Rose Brown having moved from MBC to VIS this year.

I like this team. Big tick, GA!

:)

Anonymous said...

Yay to emma nedov being reserve! Go epping Y :)

Anonymous said...

suprised rachel collister didnt make it. didnt she come 6th AA?

Anonymous said...

Yes but someone said Emma didn't compete Beam, so not likely to place AA.

Anonymous said...

I think what Anon at 12.49 is pointing out is that Rachel beat Emma Nedov but Emma Nedov is the reserve, not Rachel.

Anonymous said...

Oh ok, I see what you mean. I thought they were refering to Emma Collister making the team over her sister. Rachel beat Emma Nedov by 0.3 over 8 routines which is almost a tie so maybe there were apparatus considerations. Without the full results it's a bit hard to know what went on. If I was to guess, Emma may have been particularly strong on 1 or 2 apparatus and therefore more likely to have a score counted if she had to compete. Maybe the interview with Peggy will shed some light on it. The last(and even the second last)place on a team often doesn't go to the next AA score. It more often goes to someone who is likely to contribute a score on one or 2 apparatus. At least from what I've seen. I don't know much about either of these girls, maybe someone else could offer something about their strengths.

Are Emily and Amelia kneeling down? Or just tiny?

Anonymous said...

what happened to Britt and Ashleigh Brennan?

Anonymous said...

The Senior reserve hasn't been announced - Maybe it's Britt. I didn't hear anything about Ashleigh. I assumed she didn't trial.

Anonymous said...

Amelia and Emily are kneeling down, Ashleigh didn't go up to Canberra, let alone trial, and Britt is the Senior reserve.

Anonymous said...

Anon 1.57am, the senior reserve HAS been announced, and it's Britt.

Anonymous said...

Can someone please i.d the photo? I thought that was Emily Little in the back right corner - and if it is I dont think she's kneeling down. She's pretty tiny.

Anonymous said...

anon 9:42, maybe it was because of strong apparatus but i heard that rachel is looking pretty strong on floor with two full ins and her vault is the same as her sisters.

Anonymous said...

Maybe they are sending a message about achieving an international level of presentation? While the Collisters have great skills, neither has a great deal of performance ability and they could very well face artistry deductions if they don't work on it.

Anon 10.45

The gymnasts are: (from back left)
Standing
Larissa Miller, Georgia Wheeler, Emily Little (Little by name and statue)
Kneeling
Amelia McGrath (also tiny), Georgia-Rose Brown, Emma Collister

Anonymous said...

anon 11:16, so does emma nedov being picked only mean she has good artistry? cause if so that is pretty crappy, and i dont think her floor dance is so spectacular that she shoukd be picked because of that over the collisters

Anon 10:40 AM
If the senior reserve has been announced, would you be so kind as to indicate where? On the GA website neither of the reserves are listed. Someone in an earlier comment said that Emma Nedov is the junior reserve but I haven't seen that officially announced either. That said, I am not surprised that Britt is the reserve.

Anon 2.53pm: Inside information. Mez seems to have received the same information. It's in her post!

Anonymous said...

VWHPC confirm it on their website. They also have pics from camp.

There is another assignment they mention: Angela, Amelia, GRB and Emma Nedov are going to a meet in Germany.

I can't wait for Peggy's interview because the selections are odd.

Emma Collister good enough for PAC but not Germany?

Rachel Collister beats both Nedov and Donald but still doesn't get an assignment and they do?

Lastly, why not give the Germany assignment to four girls who missed out on PAC?
Seems silly to send Amelia and GRB off the another meet less than a month after PAC when Rachel and Amaya or Rachel and Katie could have used those spots.

It's so annoying that they constantly give meets to the same girls then when they retire/get injured the remaining girls have no experience or have already retired early because they never get any competitive opportunities.

So it seems Emma Dennis was not at camp.
Glad to see Karina, Sophie and Ashley Cooney there.
Can anyone work out who the girl in the group photo is between Ebonie Boucher and Ashleigh Kittl? never seen her before. Is that Yasmin Budack? 2nd row, 4th from left.

Also, what's the story with Natalia Joura? Injured? We haven't heard anything about her for ages.

No. Brtittany Boffo wasn't at the camp. That is Rachel Boyd from Waverly. Also, next to Ebonie Boucher and Ashleigh Kittl is Yasmin Budack - Sophie's sister.

Who on earth is Rachel Boyd?

Why doesn't Amelia McGrath ever smile in any of the photos? Is she always this sour looking

Anonymous said...

Amelia has the best smile in the world and usually it appears in every picture.

Not sure how they managed to get these pics, she doesn't look like her normal self.

Anonymous said...

"Why doesn't Amelia McGrath ever smile in any of the photos? Is she always this sour looking"

Why do people insist on looking at one or two photos and making an awful remark like this - sour looking - what a nasty thing to say - do you always look perfect in every photo?

nik said...

GRB is almost the tallest gymnast there and she's a junior- wow! Also its fantastic that we had so many gymnasts there in Canberra- i didn't know so many were at that standard, awesome!

Anonymous said...

Nikki Chung is between Rachel Collister and Britt Greeley in the second back row.

To anon at 8:50am.....
There are two photos of Amelia on this site and one on the VWHPC site - ALL of which she has a 'sour' look on her face. There is nothing nasty or awful about this comment, just fact. You tell me where in these photos her face doesn't look sour!!! As I have never seen this gymnast before, I can only base these assumptions on the 3 photos I have seen of her. Stop getting so uppity about it - the fact is she's not smiling in these photos and as a gymnast in the public eye people have a right to ask why.
Thank you to anon at 5:59am for pointing out that she's normally a smily person and that she doesn't look her normal self. Hopefully we see more happy pictures of her in the future. Keep smiling :)

Anonymous said...

A photo is a moment in time and maybe she wasn't ready - no one is being uppity - just commenting on the fact that it is not necessary to issue a nasty personal comment - i wonder how Amelia might feel to read that. There are pleanty of photos of Amelia with her lovely smile. She doesn't look sour at all - just not ready for the camera click.

To Anon 8.50 and 10:18 AM I saw Amelia at Nationals last year and one of the things I noticed was that she has the most gorgeous smile. She also seemed to have an exceptional pleasant, even excited demeanor. She was a pleasure to watch on and off the competition floor. So I looked again at the photo's you are refering to - the three on this site anyway. I don't agree that she has a sour look on her face. She isn't showing her teeth but in two of them her eyes are smiling! The other one looks like one of those unfortunate photos I'm sure we all have of ourselves where she has been caught between expressions. Anyway I went looking for other photos and couldn't find even one where she isn't showing the beautiful smile that I remember seeing so many times at Nationals. I find it disgusting the way people post such spiteful comments about the way children look. How would you like it if it were you? Or your child? Not only are they someones children but the are teenagers and people don't generally have a more self conscious period of their lives than that. Leave them alone. If you feel that these things just have to be said, say them to your friends, not in writing where everyone including the girls themselves can see them. Please?

I love how excited Tierra looks about the beep test!

I'm surprised that, if it was a digital camera, the photographer didn't look at the shot after taking it and go "Oh, bit of bad timing there, I'll try again so everyone looks good in it."

One bad shot certainly doesn't make me think less of Milly, that's for sure!

Anonymous said...

Seriously people. I know Amelia and she is a great little girl and yes, very smiley. Yes, this is not the best picture of her but WHO CARES? Definitely not most of the people here!

Change of subject: now that the aussie team is in who are people hoping come from other countries?
I hope to see:
Bross (USA)
Raisman (USA)
Grishina (RUS)
Vaculik (CAN)
Kexin (CHN)
Yuanyuan (CHN)
Komova (RUS)

I know we mostly discuss aussie gymnasts but the comp is at least in Aus!

nade00 said...

No chance of Komova or Grishina - the Russians have Euros at the same time. I guess we'll see the girls who were not quite good enough for the euros teams - my guess is that Snrs might be 2 of Musina/Afanasyeva/Kurbatova plus another.

Yuyuan and Kexin are not on China's preliminary list. However, it does have Huang Qiushuang and Wu Liufang, 2 of their excellent new seniors.

USA's preliminary team was apparently Bross, B. Caquatto, and Williams for SNRs and Wieber, Vega and Priessman (full-in off beam) for juniors. But they still have a camp for final selections.

It will be amusing seeing Wieber doing an amanar among other girls doing layout yurchenkos. It is such a mad skill for a junior.

Mez said...

Don't forget Elsa Garcia of Mexico!

If she comes out for the event, I'll turn into a smushy puddle on the floor!

(I'm not so jazzed about Bross but to have Kayla Williams would be awesome!)

nade00 said...

Elsa is not on the Mexican team :( She was withdrawn from Paris too so must be injured.

nik said...

I would rather Raisman than Williams but I guess you get what you're given right!? I read that Caquatto had a meltdown at Jesolo cup so maybe she'll be replaced. I would love to see Wieber too and Vega is supposed to be lovely. I wouldn't be surprised if all of USA's juniors out-scored our seniors, their juniors are almost better than their own seniors.

Either way I am stoked to have tickets to sub division two. It will be awesome!

Anonymous said...

Vega IS lovely. I can't get jazzed about Weiber and also don't expect great things from her after such a long injury layoff and the fact she is already on her way to becoming a burnt out junior. But it'll sure be interesting to see her there! Will also be interesting to see Preissman if she gets picked - don't know much about her except she's from MLTs house of injuries and recently won the Nastia Liukin Cup. Because of that win I suppose she is a bit of a flavour of the month.
For some reason I thought Macko Caquatto was in the running, not Bridgette. I keep forgetting B is a senior now. But I still thought Mackenzie would get the nod over her sister due to her experience abroad and all. What happened to B in Jesolo?
Rebecca Bross is so boring but a big drawcard. She is practically the world champion really. I'm disappointed Sloan has been overlooked - or has she opted out like she did for Scam?
I want to see if Williams can replicate her success from London - I honestly can't tell which way she will go.

I hope Larrissa Miller can capture the bars title in Melbourne! What does everyone think of her chances?

nik said...

I think Mac Caquatto messed up floor really badly for an 11 or something with 2 out of bounds and a fall?? From memory from some article I read. I thought the Liukin cup winner was a level 10 kid (the comp was for level 10s right)- wow, she's moved into elite nicely then! I think Sloan is recovering from injury or something.

I think Larissa has a shot at the bars title but that is dependant on who China send (eg Kexin will roll her with her apparent 7.7 start score! And she is competing in Paris too). I think if she's having a good routine she could beat Bross who is often a little messy in the legs.

Would be nice to see some Aussies on the podium and I think Miller on bars is our best chance.
