Sunday Age

I believe this is what Victorians can expect in their Sunday rag today.

Hurrah (again) for gymnasts in the media.

Speaking of...

Alex Croak features in November's International Gymnast magazine, in a "Quick Chat" feature.

Great, GREAT article. So nice to have one that avoids the patronising overtones, and makes a genuine effort to understand and convey the dedication of the sport.

It was a great article, apart from that one little bit about her eating carefully "but not as an anorexic"... WTF?? First of all, the noun is "anorectic"; anorexic is an adjective. And an anorectic isn't someone who eats especially carefully, it's someone with a full blown mental disorder. Sigh. None the less, great to see a good article about such a great athlete. :)

Well done to Jump Media - GA's media and PR partner on a job well done. Greg Baum's article was brilliant.

It has been great to read so many positive articles and stories about gymnastics.

Of course it helps immensely having a worthy story and such a level headed athlete to promote.

Onward and upward for Australian gymnastics.

Lets see the government try and take funding off a sport so desperately trying to achieve that illusive Olympic medal.

Well done to all involved.

Ther is a rumour in the west that the Joura Family are moving to Queensland ?????????

Anonymous said...

I have heard that as well! Invites to Vlads farewell have been sent via facebook????? Is it true?????

Anonymous said...

This would be a fantastic move. Vlad Joura is ready for a head coach position and his wife, Irena, is an excellent coach who has been under utilzed. What a boost for Queensland. Natalia will go, but Dasha is at uni and she might just stay in Perth. Anyway, good luck Vlad!

Anonymous said...

If that is indeed the case, Vladimir must be the new head coach at QAS, that would explain it perfectly.

Has Dasha officially retired from gymnastics yet?

A rumour where in the west?? Has it come from Northern Districts? Or WAIS?

Anonymous said...

Dasha aims to compete for International level 6. She is currently training cartwheels on beam and a back handspring on floor.

Don't be ridiculous

It's not a rumour it's true. Dasha has retired and is staying in WA. The rest of the family are coming to Brisbane. Good luck to them all :)

If you know this is definitely true, do you know when? Has he resigned?

Such a shame when I look back and think about how excited everyone was to see a new floor routine from her.

When she was injured, I thought, yeah, this sucks, but I was looking forward to seeing her in other 2008 meets like world cup final. Then she is out for rest of 2008.

Ok I think, hopefully 2009 worlds will be a great chance for her to do well, but then she is out for all of 2009.

Ok I think, hopefully she can come back for Pacific Rim and Commonwealths, but now we will never see her compete again.

It's funny how scenarios turn out to be so much worse than you could have ever imagined. I didn't think for a second during Beijing that it was the final farewell.

if it is true and invites are being sent out to ex gymnasts via facebook and WAIS parents havnt been told and have to find out via rumours, a bit unfair!

Anonymous said...

Unfair doesn't even begin to cover it!

Sometimes change is a good thing.Yes Im sure Vlad is a good coach but not the only coach out there.I've heard he can be very bias to a certian gymnast and perhaps it will open the doors for another coach and other gymnasts to explore thier talents.

Where are all these coaches to who are "out there"? From what I have seen and heard, suitably qualified, experienced and talented coaches are pretty thin on the ground in this country. They certainly are in WA.

Does anyone know how many Juniors and Seniors ae at QAS?

Please please please do NOT post information here that is from - or rumoured to be from - Facebook, particularly without the knowledge or permission of the people involved.

Cheers.

I think the only Jnrs/Snrs left at QAS are Karina Brooks, Katie Wurth and Bridget Beattie, if they are still going.

Anonymous said...

Vlad is not going to the QAS

Vlad has resigned and is moving to
Queensland.

when?

Please move this speculation/discussion to the Aussie Gym Message Board.

The AGB knows nothing about, has nothing to do with, and would rather not be so dubious as to make assumptions about, the personal circumstances of the Joura family. If official news about coaching positions is broken somewhere somehow, I will post it here. Until then, please try and keep the hearsay somewhere else.

Like my blog, the message board is free and easy to use and allows for extended conversation.

Many thanks.
