Brennan and Bonora were toally lowballed on beam.

8.400 for Ashleigh?

8.466 for Bonora? WTF?

Anonymous said...

Mitchell nearly fell and had noticeable wobbles and a low dismount and she scored only 2 tenths less than them...8.266

Anonymous said...

Anyone know why Georgia Simpson was not used for the Team?Lovely Beam worker.

Robin said...

Ashleigh should win the Elegance prize based on her beam work alone. Stunning.

Lauren now has that all important "two-time world medalist" behind her name. The judges will give her the benefit of the doubt. Shame Ashleigh and Georgia B were apparently scored according to a different set of deductions.

If Lauren can get through her rotuine without a near-fall on for team finals, I'm feeling very good about a line-up of Georgia B, Ash, and Lauren. It will put Australia in exceptionally good position.

Every thread Georgia Simpson gets brought up any reason why? The reasons for why she was not used for teams is written in nearly every thread lol.

there are some lovely pics of the girls on Stillsport.com

Have looked through the threads and the only thing I can find re not being in the team is Vault. Can you please give me another reason? I am not against Georgia Wheeler she has done a great job..just looking for clues thats all.

Anonymous said...

well yeh that's right - G Wheeler had a VT worth 2 tenths more than Simpson's. I still would have chosen Simpson because we had 4 good counting vaults already and Simpson had about 1.0 higher in difficulty than Wheeler across bars and beam but whatever. At the end of the day they pick who they want to pick and find a way to justify it.

Dear Anon 1:42 Georgia Simpson was not used for the team because Peggy thought the other girls were a better choice on this occasion.

Anonymous said...

Georgia Wheeler needs to do something about her hands on beam - they just look too tight and it ruins the lines.

Anonymous said...

Are we going to rehash the whole GS vs GW debate again!! Enough already

Anonymous said...

did lauren get credited for a triple wolf turn??

Anonymous said...

I'ld say that they did credit her triple. Even if they don't a 2.5 and a triple have the same value (E).

Lauren had a 6.7 D score which means everything was credited, all the connections and her switch ring and turn.

Ash and Georgia did seem marked a little harshly compared to some of the other E scores I've seen. Lauren may have benefited from having a reputation now but after all the times Aus gymnats have been underscored compared to gymnasts from top countries I'm okay with it.

Let's get over the Georgia stuff, okay? We qualified strongly so it's a moot point. This is reminiscent of the Larrissa vs Emma stuff last year. Peggy sees more of the girls than we ever will. I trust that her decision was the best one for the team.

Anonymous said...

Re E Score for Mitchell: My feeling is that overall she has fewer amplitude deductions on her skills - apart from the obvious wobbles in this particular routine. She is also crisper and has more classy choreography (remember there are deductions for this area).

Anonymous said...

I agree anon 4.15. There is more to the decision than whether one girl has more grace than the other. There is team balance, attitude, injury niggles etc. Peggy does see more of the girls and would have a much better understanding of surrounding issues. She is picking the girls she believes will make up the best team and bring the best result. And this group of girls got a wonderful result this time.

Anonymous said...

yes I can agree lets move forward GS time will come and GW has more years ahead of her, so leave the poor girl alone geez! Lets get behind the girls, these group of girls are the ones helping to qualify for the olympic cycle, doesn't allways mean that this group of girls will get to go to the olympics.

As for the Larrissa and Emma thing last year, that was heated too, but the results showed in the end.

Give credit were credit is due please.

I am just happy the Aussie girls hit their routines! Only one fall from the entire competition, right? Lets hope they repeat for finals. Great experience for them.

On a side note, does anyone else think when you hear Peggy talk she doesn't sound as American these days? Bit more of an aussie accent in there somewhere I think!

Also, I was reading some of the comments international gymnast put up....interesting whoever was writing wasn't really a bit fan of the aussie girls' music on floor. I have to say when I heard Emnily's music through my computer via youtube it sounded like an offtune violin!! I am sure it does not sound like this when you hear it live!! Atleast I hope not!

Anonymous said...

I don't think Emily's music is great. It's very tense, it makes me nervous lol. The thing is it's hard to have great music for a new senior. I don't think she could pull of a cutsey or elegant routine. She's still young so an attitude/sassy routine like Lauren's or Dasha's seems like a bad choice too. I think WAIS are doing the best they can until Emily develops more as a dancer/performer.

Thanks for the great videos

Anonymous said...

Happy birthday Georgia S and Coach Martine! Have a great day!

Emily's performances on Beam & floor have really improved heaps IMO. She used to be so wooden and stilted in her choreography, but now even though she doesn't seem like a natural dancer, you can see that she;s really trying to move to the music (on floor) & gracefully (on beam) -- congrats to her!!

nade00 said...

Totally agree about Emily. She looks great, and has really improved her presentation in several areas.I also love how aggressive she has become on beam. Well done to her.

Anonymous said...

I really like Emily's new floor. It suits her, and se is actually showing a relationship between her movements and the music, which many so-called more "graceful" gymnasts fail to do. I do think a lot of the music has been lost in the recording/transmission of the video from Worlds. The routine from CWG is a much better example.

I wish people would stop bagging Wheeler. Watch her beam and LOOK at the height she gets on her front sault and back sault. She is a future star for Australia. Time, experience, and confidence are all she needs.

Places for next year's Worlds will actually be really competitive! So nice for Australia after a few Last Man Standing years.

I know it is going to be huge competition just to be invited to the selection camps.

Best case scenario, we could have 33 girls. I expect some to retire in the next while, but there will still be a lot.

I thought Georgia Wheeler's beam routine was quite good. Neat enough and as a previous person said she has good height on some of her moves. Anyone know if she was meant to have an element before her side somi - right at the end of the routine?? Her arms looked a bit like she was meant to go into something else?? Maybe - might just be me.

Does Emily reach full split in her leaps on beam? Looked like she doesn't quite which is a bit unusual for an elite gymnast. I guess she is a power, power gymnast hence the DTY.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for sharing the routines! I'm not a big fan of Emily's floor music either but a dramatic piece does suit her well considering she is not very expressive. I'd like to see her do something more upbeat but I don't know that she'd be able to sell it at the moment. Great effort by all the girls and I'm sure they'll do very well in team finals.

Lineup for TF is out!!!

Vault- Bonora, Little, Mitchell
Bars- Bonora, Miller, Mitchell
Beam- Bonora, Brennan, Mitchell
Floor- Bonora, Brennan, Mitchell

I am so bloody excited for this! If anyone finds a livestream, please let us know!

Anonymous said...

Interesting line-up. I thought Emily may have done bars over Lauren and that Larrissa may have done floor over Georgia. Does anyone know the difference in their difficulty levels?

Anonymous said...

Maybe they are trying to give Lauren and Georgia B as much podium experience as possible before AA?? Or more likely (seeing as it is TF after all), they are going with consistency.

Anonymous said...

I'd say they are using Bonora and Mitchell for everything seeing as they have a name for themselves and we all know how much having a 'name' counts. I think they are smart choices :)

Anonymous said...

No matter the reasons, I think we have a stellar lineup :) Good luck to all the girls on the team!

Anonymous said...

By my calculations from qualification scores this line up puts us 0.073 ahead of GB - if the girls can improve and stay focused we could finish in 5th

Anonymous said...

I am not happy about the floor line up. If peggy wanted a medal shed put her potentially higest scoring gymnasts up. I'm all for saftey in prelims but if we have qualified for worlds next year why not give this world the best shot we have!!!! From the floor I saw of larrissa, she could of potentially gotten a 14. Bonoroas max is 13.4 roughly??

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know what time the TFs are starting? (Australian time)

nade00 said...

I totally agree. Bonora's SV is only 5.1, so it makes absolutely no sense. In prelims Miller scored 13.633 with a 0.1 OOB, whereas Bonora scored only 13.4.

Plus, why would you put her up when she also has to compete AA on an injured ankle.

If you want to do well, you have to go for broke, not be conservative.

The only explanation must be that Miller is having trouble with some of her skills in practice, or that they believe Bonora can score higher with a better performance. She did undercook her last pass in prelims which might have cost her .3, and she also flubbed her triple turn a little. Even still though, that only brings her up to Miller's level, since Bonora basically stuck every pass. Not much else she can improve.

We just have to trust that the selectors have the team's best interests at heart because they clearly wouldn't intentionally disadvantage the girls.

I have to say I don't think Ash and Georgia were underscored on beam - that's from just watching their routines and not comparing them to any others. Don't get me wrong i luv them both as gymnasts but i think the score was fair. Lauren just has that little bit extra in everything she does. Have a look at this photo - see her lines as you follow from one toe to the other - not many gymnasts achieve this line.

Yes, I am a little surprised that Georgia is competing floor over Larrissa especially considered Georgia has problem ankles but I trust that Peggy has picked the right line up, she obviously sees Georgia as the safe option. It doesn't surprise me that Lauren is competing every apparatus Emily did outscore her on bars in qualifications but Lauren was the best performed on bars in Delhi and given she has slightly higher difficulty than Emily she is probably capable of scoring higher.

Just went shopping for M n Ms and Pepsi Max to keep me awake. Can't wait! Go girls!

Anonymous said...

Anyone know of any live streaming that's going to work in Australia? I know it's possible to hide your proxy, but I don't know how to do it :(

Anonymous said...

The only way for Australia to get ahead in their team position is to hit steady routines and wait for other teams to fall a la Steven Bradbury in the winter olympics (and chances are they will given the nature of the sport). We do not have high enough D Scores to lift ourselves any more than about 5th position. The penaly for a fall is 1.0, so Peggy has obviously chosen those she thinks have the best chance of hitting their routines. Where someone has a higher D Score, but they are less stable, Peggy has gone with the more stable person at the expense of difficulty. It is a relevant strategy, and one she is entitled to employ. Remember - a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush....

Anonymous said...

I don't think it's a case of Ash and Georgia being underscored so much as other people being overscored. I can justify their E scores wheareas some other gymnasts scores leave me shaking my head. Reminds me of 2006. I think Dasha wasscored correctly it's just everyone in front of her was overscored so by comparison it looks like she was underscored.

I'ld have put Miller on FX too. Maybe Georgia wil go for a full in?
I kind of hope Larrissa will do her full UB set at 6.5 D score tonight.

Anonymous said...

Even if Ashleigh and Georgia were scored correctly and the others were overscored that really has the same effect as them being underscored because they are still not there they should be in relation to other competitors. I have read a number of people say that Dasha should have finished higher in 06 AA, as mentioned not because she was underscored but because others were overscored which once again really had the same affect, if some are going to be overscored then they should really overscore everyone, or better yet, score everyone fairly as much as possible.

To be fair, we've already qualified a team for London 2012 (which I'm sure was the main goal). So why not sacrifice a bit on the D-score and go with consistency to try and give us our best chance of improving our standing? If we can hit every routine, and some of the other teams have falls, we may get lucky :) But really, we've qualified for 2012 - anything else is just a bonus.

Anonymous said...

We haven't qualified for London yet. Top 24 teams this year qualify for next year's worlds. Next year the top 8 teams qualify automatically. Later on there will be a comp for teams ranked 9-16(I think it's 16 not 100% sure). This comp will allow the top 4 teams to qualify to London. All up there will be 12 teams in London.

I think we have a good shot at top 8 next year. If not I'm sure we can finish top 4 at the lesser comp.

Anonymous said...

How stupid of me to think this year was qualifiers for 2012! I'm an idiot. Oh well, I'm sure we can do it!!

Anonymous said...

It ALWAYS matters where you come. The higher we come each time, the better argument we have for funding support from the sports commission. You NEVER throw away a chance to finish as high as possible. If we get more funding, we can give girls needing it the chance to get experience at other competitions. You don't use Worlds to do that. If we drop down to 8th, we put our bid for more funding at risk, and may not even have enough to support our current girls. The name of the game is success at every possible opportunity. The sports commission is not interested in continually looking 12 months ahead - they will base their decisions on what we do now.

Anonymous said...

ASC base a lot of their funding mechanism on Comm Games- hence us sending an 'A' team there. We've done a good job there and a Top 5 finish her with hopefully (figers crossed) a couple of top threes in App finals (Selethurai and Mitchell) should put us in a good position.

As for 2012, I think we are in a good position for next year. We have up and comers and we need a top 8 finish. We currently have three positions spare so an equal or better performance will tip us into the top 8. Other than Olympics we've been top 8 quite a few times in the last few years.

Anonymous said...

Other than olympics? Haven't we been top 8 there too?

Anonymous said...

Yes, top 8 at the last three olympics, 6th is Sydney (after Chinese disqualification), 8th in Athens and 6th in Bejing. I think Australia has been top 8 at most worlds and Olympics in the last ten years (07 Worlds obviously and exception).
