1 Day to Go: Podium Training

Came home from work to find some real photographic gems floating about from podium training. The girls look great...as do the leos!

(Ooooh, Australia just got a goal in the soccer, woooohoooo!)

Those leos are lovely, if only we knew about the lovely routines from podium training.

Evil NBC!! Not only do they stuff up the scheduling for swimming and change the OLYMPIC ORDER of event finals at THE OLYMPICS but they also prevent any Aussie fans from enjoying podium training. And worst of all they didn't show divisions 3 and 4 training so it's not like any of our friends in the U.S could dish on the details. Aargh

On a much lighter note Mez you're doing an amazing job with this blog. My fav by far. Keep it up, us Aus fans are desperate for any news and the tiniest of scraps you give us are highly appreciated.

BTW have you recovered your eyesight from looking at the USA's prelim leo? ;)

There ARE ways of getting around the NBC limitations to 'US states' IP address stuff. I believe there are numerous programs floating around the internet that will temporarily provide you with a US addy that allows you to access their video.

Several Aussies I know have been able to access the US & Chinese podium training vids on NBCO. :)

I just adore these leos...I really wish they'd keep them for either prelims or finals (yes, I'm being a positive optimist here!). :)

Sorry to be the bearer of heartbreaking, terrible news but it sounds like Dasha is injured.

She only did layout yurchenkos and a dance through on floor.

If it turns out as bad as it sounds, what a cruel injustice after all she has done for Australian gymnastics.

ok so I posted above in quite a worked-up, 2am state, and several kind posters on various boards have said not to panic. At this point, that is all we know. Hopefully it is nothing.

I'm sure Dash is fine and had she injured herself we'd have heard about it. I'd be putting money on the fact that she's either a little weary or they're just being cautious with her. There are so many factors in play here - the heat etc.

I wish IG or someone would hurry up and put up a podium report.

I hope she only did dance-throughs etc because she was nervous and they didn't want to run the RISK of injuring her.

If she IS hurt and can't compete (or compete at her fullest), I will be one grumpy (and rather heartbroken) blogger.

can someone describe or post a picture of the chinese or usa leos from podium? I saw the pics of the chinese ones online and they seem too busy to me!

I reckon NBC's doing an awesome job of broadcasting podium training. They didn't broadcast divisions 3 and 4, but I didn't expect any broadcasting at all. Anything that we get is a bonus; showing 1 1/2 hours for divisions 1 and 2, and every routine from USA, is just way above my expectations. I thought the Chinese leos were too busy at first, but now that I've seen them in action I think they look really good and incorporate Chinese material really well. USA leos: the first pink ones. http://www.insidegymnastics.com/content/show/08Olympics.aspx?articleid=379&zoneid=34

Crossing my fingers for Dasha and the rest of the team, too.

i can't believe the US girls rocked up in "pink" leos. Peggy must have friends in high places over the other side of the Pacific. I wonder whether one of Nastia's sponsors paid out GK to have them in pink seeing as that is her signature colour.

Just imagine if us AND America turned up wearing pink leos....! How rude of them- after all it is OUR national colour...isn't it?!!

Jokes aside I love our leos and am also hoping the make another apperance even more so then the sparkly green/gold ones.

Best of luck to all the girls as well as Sam Simpson. Do us proud Sam!!!!

The USA leotard was AWFUL- and I honestly believe it was Nastia inspired.

Im praying Dasha is ok but its strange not to warm up tumbling when she wont get another go on that floor before prelims- and it was said to be bouncier than the warm up room (lots of US girls were bouncing oob).

I watched the NBC coverage (Aussie living in the US) and thought the USA looked pretty damn good minus a nervous looking Shawn who I think will pull it together on the day. Her triple twist was around for sure but her front twisting pass she was having trouble with. one fall on bars but beam was super solid. Nastia looked awesome. Her bars dismount is 100% improved. Chellsie's bar set was yukky. Terrible terrible legs and missed handstands. They should have brought in the alternate. China looked fantastic though Im not sure who is who except for Cheng (fab floor) and He (awesome bar set) The last little one up seemed to struggle a bit- not sure of her name though. I think China has it.... but I dont want to jinx them!!

We get prelims and team finals live in PRIME TIME over here so I will comment on them if people like??.. not sure what time it will be screened in Aus (actually I dont even know what the time diff is to Beijing but Im sure the amount nbc paid forced the IOC to have it at some weird time so the live comp match US prime time!).. though Im not sure how much of non-USA/China we will see in prelims.

Sorry for the long comment- hope there aren't too many mistakes- I didn't re-read it!
