Give It Up For the Waverley WonderTwins

As Beijing gymnastics draws to a close tomorrow with the beam final, in which Shona Morgan made the first reserve position, I just wanted to end our team's campaign on a positive note.

What fantastic work from the two Waverley girls, Shona and Georgia. Our AA finallists who hit solid (for the most part) their routines in 3 rounds of competition and scored some personal bests. They came out as the team's rocks, despite not being dead-set favourites for finals or coming from a prestigious, government-funded state training centre.

They are always smiling and wear their team colours with pride. Onya girls. Keep it up!

Thank you Meredith for recognizing this. The all esteemed Dasha just didn't cut it nor did any of the other gymnasts, but the two underdogs went in and did what they had to do with seemingly little fuss and got on with the job. Well done Waverley!

I wouldn't say Dasha didn't cut it. Thats a bit harsh!!! I'm sure had she not been injured she would have done very well thank you very much! Not taking anything away from Shona and Georgia - yes they did do a fantastic job, but I don't think they are yet at the calibre of Dasha. But then again, I don't think Dasha's at the calibre of the gymnasts we saw in aparatus finals over the last couple of days. I still think Australian gymnastics has a fair way to go.

Dasha needs to upgrade if she is to seriously contend for medals.

Since 2006, her bars has gone down .1 in a-score, from 6.4 to 6.3. Ideally she should be at about 6.8-7.0 on bars (she looks so natural on this event yet her a-score is pretty mediocre), 6.5 on beam, training the amanar vault and upping to about 6.4 on floor. Then she will be a more serious contender. Still, I'd take herlovely routines over her codewhoring counterparts anyday...
